Second grade students At Wilson Elementary School are proud to be displaying their “Cups of Joy” to the patrons of the Z-Spot Espresso & Coffee Shop. Students designed their cups by incorporating personal interests and patterns into each cup. Some cups are filled with hot chocolate and marshmallows while others are filled with student’s favorite warm beverage. Currently in the art room, students are bringing their designs to life by making them out of clay and using glaze to paint their cup.
Parents and students recently took part in Wilson Elementary School’s Art Show and Ice Cream Social. The event exhibited over 1,000 works of art made by students in kindergarten through 5th grade. An art scavenger hunt helped students explore artwork in the hallways leading them on pathways throughout the school. Students who completed the scavenger hunt were given raffle tickets to win balloon creations made by Jean Johnson “The Balloon Lady.” The Wilson carolers along with the band and strings students performed a variety of songs for the spectators while they were enjoying their ice cream treats. Sara Eder, President of the Wilson PTA said, “The turnout that we have had the past two years has been amazing! It is wonderful for families to be able to come to the event and see all of the art that the kids have been working hard on this year. Many kids especially look forward to the scavenger hunt that is also going on along with the show! It’s a great night that we look forward to every year….artwork and ice cream, what could be better.”
This event was sponsored by the Wilson PTA and Art Department to help support and fund programs at Wilson Elementary School. More information on current happenings in the art room found at wilsonelementaryart.wordpress.com
