Students in kindergarten recently finished their unit on Piet Mondrian. The major concepts were the primary colors and vertical and horizontal lines. Each student made a series of three using paint, construction paper, and crayon.
2nd grade students studied Vincent Van Gogh’s Wheat field with Crows painting. Students learned about Vincent’s brush stroke and how to paint like him. Students were also required to mix their own color palette.
Third grade students had fun making op-art with their hands. The project includes image repetition, watercolor and sharpie.
Lita Judge is the author and illustrator of more than fifteen fiction and nonfiction picture books. Students learned about her experiences and how she develops a picture book. She has received numerous awards including the Sterling North Award, the Jane Addams Honor, ALA Notable, Texas 2×2, the International Reading Association Children’s Book Award, Michigan Notable Book, and Kirkus Best Books List.
Kindergarten and first grade students recently completed their first project of the school year. Kindergarten students learned about different types of line in art and how to develop a landscape. First grade students drew an underwater scene with the emphasis on a sea turtle. All art work is located in the kindergarten and 1st grade hallway.
